Moroccan Home Decor Can Transform Your Home With Quality

By Andy West

If you want to decorate your home to incorporate quality, romance, and beauty, you owe it yourself to consider Moroccan home decor and furnishings. While your big-box furniture store may have run-of-the-mill modern pieces that will make your home look like everyone else's, a touch of Moroccan style can easily transform your living space into a wonderful environment. Rich colors, high quality furnishings, intricate designs and high-quality pieces that last for generations while seamlessly adapting to current styles are the hallmarks of Moroccan style. Moroccan furnishings and accessories will never look dated and will last forever, thanks to the high quality of these pieces. Plus, Moroccan style is highly adaptive and can easily be transformed to suit your taste. It can be elaborate and richly historic or cool and modern. That's not all, try some Moroccan style in your home and you are sure to stun visitors with a unique home that reflects your true personality.

Moroccan home decor pieces and furniture are often made of high-quality wood. Cedar, mahogany, argana (similar to mahogany), lemon, and ebony are abundant in Morocco and many traditional furnishings are made from these beautiful and durable materials. Carved pieces and furnishings that make use of inlay work are quite common in Morocco. Many Moroccan wood furniture and accessory pieces are painted, which makes it simple to incorporate these pieces into an existing decor scheme. Moroccan wood is painted by hand with donkey-hair brushes that allow for great detail. You may see tastir, or stars with eight, twelve and sixteen points on many pieces. Floral, plant, and geometric patterns are also very common.

Some Moroccan home decor pieces that you may want to include in your home are carved chests, tea tables, shelves, and moushrabiyas (decorative screens). All are sure to add beauty to your living space. Be sure to also look for elaborately carved and beautiful marriage chairs, which can be either very high or tub-like. Be sure to complement your decor with cups, bowls, desk organizers, and chests. All of these accessories are also made of wood and come in intricate, gorgeous designs. If you are on a tight budget, they can be a great way to bring Moroccan style into your home without a huge investment.

Of course, Morocco is also famous for its rich metalwork tradition. Hand crafted pieces in iron, copper, brass and bronze are an essential part of Moroccan home decor. Artisans in cities such as Fez, Sale and Marrakesh produce stunning metalwork, creating grilles, lamps, trays, bottles, vases, pots, samovars, kettles, kitchenware, burners for incense, and much more. Like woodwork, metalwork tends to be covered in intricate and gorgeous designs that can include stars, rosettes, clouds, and other designs.

Moroccan home decor is not only beautiful, but its rich tradition means a higher quality than what you may see in many of today's stores. If you are tired of rickety tables and mass-produced accessories, Moroccan pieces, many of which continue to be made by hand as they have been for centuries, offer the high quality and the unique beauty that you may be missing. Plus, thanks to the fact that many pieces are made of real wood, leather, metal, and other traditional materials, these pieces may actually contain fewer chemicals and dangerous glues than other pieces of furniture. There is certainly a reason why Moroccan style has been adopted by many homes over many centuries – not only is the highly adaptable style timeless, but the high quality is sure to please. With rich colors, bold shapes and plenty of options, Moroccan pieces are sure to complement your current decor, or may just inspire you to overhaul your home to include more rich and beautiful pieces.
